The Vengeful Fans
WARNING!
THIS POST CONTAINS CONTENT THAT MENTIONS SUICIDE. PLEASE DO NOT READ IF IT BOTHERS YOU.
On one of my posts here I have written about a group of people from the conspiracy theory who support the theory despite secretly agreeing with the official verdict of Cobain's death. Apparently they blame his wife for his death. They want to destroy her life and that is why they support this theory. I'll refer to these types of fans as the vengeful fans.
A few people want me to write about these fans from my personal experience. And so here I am writing this. At first, I didn't want to write about it. I made a strict rule for myself that I will only write about the topics that matter to the Cobain Case on my blog and YouTube channel. Now I realized that this topic may bear some significance to the Cobain Case.
One thing I would to say is that I am aware that some fans who support the theory have genuine doubts about Cobain's death. I can understand why and I am not against them as long as they do it in a proper manner. However, I don't support the vengeful fans. Their motive is wrong. No matter what, it's never right to blame or imprison someone for a crime they did not commit.
Why do these fans want to destroy Courtney's life and get her imprisoned for a crime they know she did not commit? The main reason is that they blame her for making Cobain's life miserable which caused him to take his own life. The note found at the scene mentioned Frances. Many fans know about the custody battle. Courtney is mainly blamed for it. It is known that Cobain was deeply affected by the custody battle and the libel lawsuit he lost to Lynn Hirschberg. Many people think he took his life because of those events though some blame the withdrawal symptoms of heroin which made him depressed and over-anxious. But to the vengeful fans, Courtney is the main cause of Kurt's struggles in life that drove him to end his life. To them, she doesn't deserves the love, recognition and respect for being the woman who Cobain was married to. After all, marrying her brought little good and a lot of problems in his life. And maybe they are right. Perhaps his life would have been different if he hadn't married Courtney and he would be alive with us now. Though some fans also want to point that Kurt married her after getting her pregnant for which they hold him partially responsible and that Courtney had reportedly saved his life a few times when he overdosed. As for Kurt, he himself claimed he was happy to marry Courtney in various interviews (Here's one example). Though most people think he was lying. Sometimes I feel that way too, that Kurt was telling lies about what he thinks of Courtney in a romantic sense. I get the feeling that he only married her because he felt responsible for impregnating her. However, I don't think I am in any position to judge or decide who Kurt should have been with. That was Kurt's personal decision to make. And personally I don't think Courtney was the only source of his life's problems. For example a month before he died there was a lawsuit filed by Kevin Kerslake against him. That being said, I also agree with the fans who say his heroin addiction may have pushed him in a dark corner of his mind to say the least.
Now to my personal experiences with these vengeful fans.
The earliest I remember coming across such fans was in 2019. I can think of two notable events. The first one was around September 2019 and the second one was around the time of Tom Grant's Ohio trip in January 2020.
A bit of background information. I started studying the murder theory on November/December of 2018. I did online searches about Cobain's death and found some websites and news articles about it. Around this time, my knowledge about the murder theory wasn't as good as it is now. The websites I found hardly wrote anything about the theory. But I discovered that there are two books about it - 'Who Killed Kurt Cobain?' and 'Love and Death' both written by Ian Halperin and Max Wallace. I purchased them and read them. I learned that they were published many years ago and wanted to know what the latest information on the theory was. I continued my online research.
As I did my research I would read comments to discover anything new about the theory. I can't remember on which site this happened but I found a comment talking about the handwriting practice sheet. It had 80+ replies. If my memory is right then that comment was over 2 months old when I first discovered it. Therefore, I think it was originally written on June or July of 2019. The replies the comment got was a mixture of support and disagreements. At that time I wasn't familiar with the names of many notable figures in the conspiracy theory. I didn't memorize their names. Now I am familiar with many names. I think on that comment they were talking about Rosemary Carroll. And there was an argument about whether the evidence was false or made up. I think they were referring to an allegation made by Danny Goldberg, ex-husband of Rosemary Carroll, that Tom Grant had edited his tape recordings to make it appear as though Carroll said whatever was on the tapes. At that time I didn't knew about his allegation. Then I found the replies of the original commenter's (the user of the main comment that got the replies). I don't remember the exact words but in one of their replies they said something like 'I know he killed himself' and 'his life was destroyed by Courtney and I will destroy her'. Then somebody replied to them saying something like 'then why do you blame his wife for murdering him?'. I don't think they replied to them. The remaining replies from the original commenter was just them saying how awful Courtney is, that poor Kurt got trapped by her and that they are going to bring Courtney down and send her to hell. I also noticed that there was a lot of typos and I get the feeling that they (the original commenter) were probably drunk. And perhaps that was the case. People like them would be smart enough to know that Courtney won't get any punishment if it is discovered that they are - with full awareness - falsely accusing her of murder.
And so I can only assume that the original commenter was drunk when they revealed that they agree with the official verdict of his death but are secretly trying to destroy Courtney Love's life by supporting the murder theory.
The second event on January of 2020 was similar. There was a comment with a long chain of replies. In my memory, I recall that the main comment was over 2 weeks old, there were users discussing the suicide note, the allegedly stolen credit card, the mental health of Kurt and Courtney and who they think pulled the trigger. This time, another user (not the original commenter) did something similar to what the one I mentioned above did - they suddenly wrote that they agree Kurt killed himself but blame Courtney and want her to suffer. And again, I think this person was drunk because there were typos and errors on their comments. I don't think any of these vengeful fans would openly admit to what they are doing without being under the influence of alcohol. I don't remember where this happened. Back then I didn't note down any significant information about the Cobain Case and its sources as I do now.
I also want to say that I haven't encountered a lot of these vengeful fans. As of now (April 2025), I can only think of eight people who are these types of fans. The last time I encountered a fan like this was around October of 2023. However, five of them are ambiguous. These five people did mention that it was Courtney's fault (for Cobain's death) and that his life changed drastically after he met her. But they didn't say anything about agreeing with the official verdict of his death and wanting to destroy Courtney's life. However, if my memory is correct, I read some other people accusing those five of being fans who 'created this conspiracy theory' because they hate and blame Courtney. And they sounded like they knew them for a long time.
As for the third one which I am certain was a vengeful fan... if my memory is correct I found them on YouTube commenting on one of AmericanSpyFox's videos (or maybe it was on his community posts) around July or August of 2020. I don't remember which video/post it was and I get the feeling it may have gotten deleted. I mean the comment by the vengeful fan but maybe even the video/post got deleted as well. The commenter said something like Courtney trapped Kurt to marry her (they seem to imply that Courtney got herself pregnant to force Kurt to marry her), she was obsessed with him, Kurt was too soft and allowed her to control his life and then he had enough and wanted to be freed from her and that's why he decided to leave this world. And lastly they mentioned they hope Courtney never finds happiness in her life, that she goes to hell and that they are doing some black magic to make her lose her money, health and happiness. And maybe die. They also said that they are casting the curse on people who support her - the people who defend her against the accusation of her murdering Cobain. Then they spammed the comments saying some incantations or something. I don't know. This one was weird.
This is all I have to say regarding the vengeful fans I personally encountered.
I think some people would want me to take screenshots of such fans whenever I encounter them and share them here. I will have to say that I won't be sharing such photos. Like I said, I will only write and upload contents that are significant to the Cobain Case. I'll like to avoid posting about what comments I read or any internet war /drama I am going through. Besides, I get the feeling that even if I share such photos there would be people who'll doubt the credibility. I am not sure how many people know this but some people accuse me of working under Courtney. They would think I am making up all of this. And no, I don't work for her. I created this blog for the purpose of sharing my analysis of the murder theory and explaining why I don't support it. And this is something I am doing from my own free will.
In conclusion I'll like to mention the following points:
- There is a group among those who support the conspiracy theory whose main goal is to take revenge on Courtney for causing Cobain to take his own life. I will refer to them as the vengeful fans. They may or may not be working collectively.
- From what I gather, they seem to have been around for a long time.
- A few times I wonder if Tom Grant is one of them but most of the time I feel like he has genuine doubts about the death of Cobain and is sincere.
- Sometimes I think Rosemary Carroll is one of these vengeful fans. This depends on whether or not Courtney Love had visited her home on 6th April 1994 and left the bag with the handwriting practice sheet. It's possible that Carroll had fabricated the evidence by herself and Tom Grant has nothing to do with it.
- I do not discourage anyone who wish to reopen the case if they have genuine doubts about the death of Kurt Cobain nor do I associate them with the vengeful fans.
- I write this post not to discourage the sincere fans who have genuine doubts but to spread an awareness about this. Be aware that the vengeful fans would provide false and fabricated evidence. Be sure to verify any claims or evidence before you consider them to be true.
